The surroundings
The Château de la Marine sits on the hill of Rupembert in Wimille and is just minutes away from Wimereux. This little Belle-Epoque seaside resort has retained all of its charm. With the pretty, colourful façades of its listed villas that overhang the seafront, it is a pleasant place for a stroll. Explore the Côte d’Opale, an exceptional shoreline featuring vast expanses of beach and dunes, steep landscapes and an ocean of changing reflections. Discover the fishing villages of Ambleteuse, Audresselles, and Wissant, and the magnificent two capes, ranked as a ‘Grand Site National’ in France. Nearby you will find the town of Boulogne-sur-Mer, nationally classified as a ‘Ville d’Art et d’Histoire’ and boasting a medieval and maritime heritage. Nausicaà, Europe’s largest complex dedicated to the marine world, is also a must-see.
Food lovers will not be disappointed: here on the coast, the great chefs combine the bounty of the sea with local products in a refined and inventive way. Catherine and Guy will be happy to recommend their favourite addresses. Sporting enthusiasts have an abundance of activities to choose from, with hiking between the seaside and the countryside, mountain biking (rentals and organised rides can be arranged), golf at Wimereux, Touquet or Hardelot, and horse riding at Wimereux or La Cappelle. Nautical sport enthusiasts will meet their match here, with sailing, windsurfing, and kite surfing. Wimereux is a French sailing resort, and Wissant, another reputed spot in Europe, is just a few kilometres away.
